Nutella and Pretzel Rice Krispie Treats

Do they still sell those Kellogg’s Rice Krispie treats in the blue wrappers at the grocery store? Ugh, I remember they had a really strange aftertaste. I never really understood why anyone would buy them since Rice Krispies are the easiest dessert to make at home – you only need the microwave and about 10 minutes to whip up a batch!

I like Rice Krispie treats well enough but never really go out of my way to make them. That might change now though now that I created a batch with Nutella and chopped pretzels. Nutella obviously makes everything better and the salt and extra crunch from the pretzels is just divine.

Nutella and Pretzel Rice Krispie Treats

4 cups Rice Krispie cereal
2 cups coarsely chopped mini pretzels
1 10.5-ounce bag mini marshmallows
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1 cup Nutella

Place Rice Krispies and chopped pretzels in a large bowl and mix well. Place mini marshmallows and butter in a large microwave safe bowl and microwave on high for 1 minute; stir until smooth. Add in Nutella and stir until smooth, microwaving an additional 10 to 20 seconds, if needed. Pour in cereal/pretzel mixture and stir together with a greased spatula until well combined; pour into a greased 9×13-inch pan and press down with the spatula. Let cool to room temperature, about 30 minutes, and then cut into squares. Makes 16 squares.

  1. love the play on salty and sweet with these, what a great treat!! and yeah, i totally saw someone eating one of those blue-wrapped ones the other day… ewww.

  2. Wow, what a great idea!! I have to admit that I definitely asked my husband to find me Rice Krispie treats during my first trimester (I had bakery quality in mind) and he returned with the blue wrappers… I still ate them. But these look infinitely better!!
