Girard’s Salad Dressing Giveaway

I’ve mentioned before that I don’t make many main course salads because it’s a pain to chop up all the necessary veggies to make a restaurant quality plate of greens at home. But, I also tend to get lazy about making anything other than a boring balsamic vinaigrette, which is a shame since the dressing usually makes the salad in my opinion! So when the creative team behind Girard’s salad dressings contacted me about trying several of their new flavors, I was really excited, especially since I’ve actually been a fan of their products for several years now (it all started when I randomly picked up a bottle of their yummy spinach salad dressing for a baby shower I co-hosted back in Chicago). They have 14 regular and 4 light varieties so there really is something for everyone.

So Girard’s sent me three of their new flavors to try – apple poppyseed, creamy balsamic, and peach mimosa, and also their signature champagne dressing. They were all very tasty, but my favorite was the peach mimosa because it was so creative – I actually wished I had come up with the idea for this flavor combo! Since I enjoyed the dressings so much, Girard’s offered to also send a package of the four dressings I tried to five of my readers!

There are two ways to enter to win:
1. Leave a comment on this post telling me about your favorite salad recipe (I need some new ideas!).
2. Tweet about this giveaway (using @cakebatterbowl) or post about it on your blog or Facebook page. Please leave a separate comment for this entry.
Entries must be in by Sunday, August 15 at 11:59pm EST. Good luck!

p.s. The fine print:  Girard’s sent me the salad dressings to try for free and is sponsoring this giveaway, but I received no compensation for this post and all opinions are mine. The winners will be picked with random.org on Monday, August 16 and announced shortly thereafter.

I love the sound of a peach Mimosa dressing. I’ve only ever tried their dressings at my grand parents house. I would say one of my favorite salads is what we call tequilla berry salad, which has neither tequila or berries. It’s actually just the name of the restaurant that served it. I made a vegetarian version on my blog last fall:

I never heard of this product, it must be that good if you are using it, right?

At the moment my favorite salad is fresh corn salad with avocado, tomatoes, and green bell pepper. Simply delicious.

I am all about seasonal salads such as pea tendrils topped with radishes, heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers and some feta. Yum!

I really don’t follow recipes for salads – it’s all about just tossing every veggie we have in the house, some kind of protein, nuts for crunch and sometimes cheese (if there is goat cheese in the house, it definitely goes in ;0 ). I also love adding chopped pickles to salads… or for a different direction – some fruit.
PS – I’ve never heard of this dressing brand. I’m glad they contacted you. :)

I don’t follow a recipe for salads, but generally make them the same way. chop up some romaine lettuce. add cucumber, broccoli, tomato, jicama, french fried onions, cheese and what ever meat I have on hand. It could be steak, chicken, salmon, etc. top with favorite salad dressing.

Oooo, peach mimosa. That sounds heavenly. My recent favorite salad is walnut pear salad. I love combining fruits and nuts with my salad. The recipe also includes a lovely apricot nectar red wine vinegar dressing that is just delightful. I look forward to reading your new favorite salad recipe soon.

    Happy Eating!

My current favorite is a chickpea, couscous and feta salad with cucumber, red bell pepper, and any other veggies you want to add. I dress it with an olive oil, lemon juice, white wine vinegar dressing BUT you could get really creative with a variety of homemade or store bought dressings.

My favorite salad (today) is greens tossed with cubed smoked provolone, thinly sliced fennel and sliced blood oranges. It’s extraordinarily fresh.

All those dressing sound amazing, especially that peach mimosa. Sooo creative.

My fave salad right now is arugula and sliced pears with Girard’s honey mustard dresssing. Real simple but real delicious too!

SUCH a fun contest. The apple poppyseed sounds incredible- my type of dressing for sure. My favorite salads are either greek salads (pretty traditional with cucumbers, tomato, onion, feta, artichoke hearts) or simple salads of lettuce topped with roasted vegetables

My favorite salad has a mix of romaine and iceberg lettuce, cucumbers, green and red bell peppers, a granny smith apple, craisins, cashews, topped with either chicken breast or tuna, and drizzled with a balsamic dressing.

One of my favorite salads, as of late, is a salad of baby spinach, goat cheese crumbles, heirloom tomatoes and cinnamon crusted almonds. This can be dressed with a vinegarette style dressing of your choice. I usually do either a balsamic or use some of this fabulous strawberry balsamic vinegar that my roommate found at Gustare. SO GOOD.

The most delicious salad I’ve ever had was called the Verde Salad at a restaurant in NYC (i wish i could remember the name of the restaurant!) It was lettuce, green apples and kiwi with a lime-wasabi dressing. Really simple but incredibly flavorful!

What a tasty giveaway- I always love a good salad dressing but have never tried this brand. I usually stick with Newman’s Balsamic Vin.

My favorite dinner salad is from Cal. Pizza Kitchen. It has mixed greens, celery, diced green apple, grapes, blue cheese, candied walnuts, roasted chicken in a balsamic vin- SO good!

My second favorite salad is mixed greens with cinnamon pecans, sliced strawberries, blue cheese and a maple vin.

    Ooh, now I want salad!

I love your blog and your unique recipes. I shared this contest with my readers (http://startinglifeatthirty.blogspot.com/2010/08/shameless-post-so-i-can-enter-contest.html) and would be really interested to see how that champagne flavor would taste on a Caprese style salad instead of just olive oil.

Salads I love the most have some kind of fruit in them and nuts. (My husband thinks it’s gross to have fruit in a green salad.)
Another favorite salad I had in one of the cooking classes I was taking before we moved. :(
It had mixed salad greens (it was frisee, mache & radicchio, but any are fine), lardons (thick sliced bacon), toasted walnuts, little chunks of Gruyere cheese.

The vinaigrette was to die for–white wine vinegar, Dijon mustard, oil and CREAM. SO good.
If you want the whole recipe, let me know and I can send it to you.

I can’t believe no one has mentioned a caprese salad, given that it’s summer and tomatoes are everywhere! This is definitely my favorite salad. I love to make it with a mix of tomatoes–ripe yellow tomoatoes are good, as are fresh romas. Both are great raw, since they are sweeter and less acidic. Slice the tomatoes, then add fresh basil leaves, some sliced fresh mozzarella (the spongey kind usually in a tub full of liquid), and then sprinkle with sea salt, fresh pepper, and really good olive oil. I bought fleur de sel and fresh olive oil in France this spring, and wow, do they make this salad!

My go to salad this summer has been arugula with grilled corn (shaved off the cob) avocado, toasted walnuts, grilled red onion and freshly shaved parm cheese. I sometimes throw some scallops or shrimp on top for substance. I like to serve this with a lemon dressing (lemon zest, garlic powder, olive oil, a touch of honey and some whole grain mustard.) It’s delicious.

Lately, I had an amazing Asian inspired salad!
It contained cold soba noodles, watercress, grilled portabello mushrooms slices, and slices asparagus. They were all tossed together in a miso-sesame ginger vinagerette. Nice and light, but also satisfying!
