Chicken Cordon Bleu Burgers

It’s always fun to update a retro recipe. I can’t actually remember the last time I had chicken cordon bleu, which you probably know is a boneless chicken breast rolled around ham or prosciutto and Swiss or bleu cheese and then coated in bread crumbs. But, I was recently brainstorming stuffed burger recipe ideas, and for some reason chicken cordon bleu popped in my head.

I’m glad it did because these chicken cordon blue burgers were scrumptious! I filled ground chicken patties with bacon and gruyere cheese and then covered them in panko for some crunch and melted a little more gruyere on top because doubling the cheese is obviously always a good idea. I had a little trouble finding ground chicken but finally got my hands on some at Whole Foods. The search was worth it though. We inhaled these burgers!

Ingredients:
6 slices applewood bacon, chopped
2 pounds ground chicken
2/3 cup grated yellow onion
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 cup shredded gruyere cheese, divided
1 cup panko
6 hamburger buns, split and toasted

Directions:
Heat oven to 350°F. Place bacon in a medium nonstick skillet and sauté for 6 to 8 minutes over medium heat or until crispy; drain on paper towels. Place ground chicken, grated onion, garlic, and salt in a large bowl and gently mix all the ingredients together with your hands; form 12 burgers that are slightly larger than the buns. Place 6 patties on a large greased cookie sheet and evenly sprinkle bacon and 1 cup shredded gruyere cheese in the centers of the 6 patties. Place the other 6 patties on top to form 6 stuffed burgers. Evenly coat the top and sides of the burgers with panko. Bake at 350°F for 18 to 22 minutes or until cooked through and no longer pink in the center. Heat oven broiler, evenly sprinkle remaining 1 cup gruyere cheese on top of each burger, and broil for 1 to 2 minutes or until cheese is melted. Place burgers on buns and serve. Makes 6 burgers.

Blackened Tilapia Sandwiches with Avocado Spread and Crispy Plantains

I used to always immediately think of McDonald’s when anyone mentioned fish sandwiches. I’ve actually never had a Filet-O-Fish, but they were my brother’s favorite when we were lucky enough to stop by the Golden Arches growing up, and I have fond memories of him...

Indian Saag Naanburgers

You didn’t think I’d stop at just making a naanwich did you? Nope, the same day I made that chicken tikka masala inspired sandwich, I also knew I wanted to make an Indian inspired burger, which of course, would have to be called a naanburger, haha. It’s funny how I’m...

Triple Tomato Chicken Panini

My parents visited us last weekend! We started things off perfectly by enjoying some delicious pizza at Emma’s Thursday night. Then on Friday, I snuck out of work a bit early to check out the Chihuly exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts with them - amazing! I think my...

Adobo Ranch Beef Wraps

This East coast heat wave has led me to eat cereal or ice cream for dinner a few more times than I’d like to admit! I’ve also been craving cool crisp salads more often than usual and thought this was the perfect time to share this tasty wrap that I made a few weeks...

Chicken Tikka Masala Naanwiches

Remember when I mentioned I was reviewing a product for CSN Stores? Well, I ended up getting a gift card and look at all the loot I scored! The two 9-inch cake pans have been on my list for awhile now because I previously only had two 8-inch pans and one 9-inch pan,...

Pulled Pork Sandwiches on Toasted Garlic Buns

Ever since I went to Sweet Cheeks and was disappointed that the “Texas toast” my pulled pork sandwich was served on was simply white sandwich bread, I’ve been dreaming about pulled pork piled high between pieces of garlic bread. So, I recently headed to our local meat...

Indian Meatball Naanwiches

I’m back and feeling ready to post! To be honest, I had lost a bit of my blogging mojo over the past several weeks. I was plagued by writer’s block and couldn’t motivate myself to even get into the kitchen. But, I felt a lot of pressure to keep posting on a regular...

BBQ Sloppy Joes

My mom used to make sloppy joes for us pretty regularly growing up. I have very fond memories of watching her add the ketchup and mustard to the ground beef simmering in a pot on the stove, and then of course of all of us attempting to eat the sandwiches without...
